We Are Back Caution!

“We'll Live and Die in These Towns.”

A friendly Warning.

I’ve got a terrible feeling about the Memorial Park “We Are Back” party and the route for the Coventry City parade bus tomorrow. If someone wanted to stash something in the park, it might already be there. However, vehicles already parked along the route are also very suspect.

Be careful at any bottlenecks, turns, or stops that slow the parade down, and at entrances where there might be queues of people.

If Coventry City Council and local police have done their jobs well, the route, the bus station, the train station, and the park should already have been thoroughly searched, and let’s hope they have an armed police unit and a command post set up.

With the geopolitical unrest in the UK and wider world right now, an event like this, which is a mass gathering of many people in a place not set up to house such an event, in a once-in-a-quarter-century party, without the security of a stadium or arena which regularly holds events of 50,000 people, and in the centre of England, with a very diverse demographic, something could go wrong. It could be an easy target for anyone wanting to make a statement or cause mass terror.

Let’s be honest, many hotels in and around Coventry are full of unchecked and unregulated young, fighting-aged men who have entered the country illegally. We just do not know their aims. It’s not outrageous to suggest that within the hordes of small boats docking on the beaches of the UK every day, a few bad apples have entered.

I guess with so many of my loved ones and friends attending such a big, one-off event, it’s natural for anxiety to kick in the night before. If I could, I’d go and search the park myself with my dog, but it’s past my bedtime, and my ankle bracelet says no.

Let’s hope all is well and everyone has a good day. I’ll be keeping my distance.

If something does happen, hit the deck, and if you have to flee, run to the trees. Do not get channelled towards an exit in a stampede, where little ones might get trampled and secondary devices or attackers might be waiting to cause maximum damage.

Think of the 7/7 London tube bombings in 2005, where bombers then targeted buses. Or the Manchester Arena bombing on 22 May 2017, where the attacker targeted the entrance area of the City Room, a large foyer between the arena and Victoria Station. Or indeed the Hillsborough disaster, a fatal crowd crush that killed 97 people.

Let’s be having none of this in our city. “We'll Live and Die in These Towns.”

Stay safe, Coventry. Eyes open. Love you all.
